Isabel Anders

Isabel O.E. Anders (born in 2001) is a German/Cuban pianist, composer, and improviser based in Berlin. Her intention with improvisation is to conduct a musical dialogue with the other performers, and to let ideas and inspiration from various sources and art forms merge in a non-elitist manner into a timeless form of expression.

She began improvising at an early age and started studying classical piano at a Russian music school at age six. She later continued her training with the concert pianists Prodromos Symeonidis and Vladimir Tropp, focusing primarily on Alexander Scriabin, alongside works by early Arnold Schönberg, Olivier Messiaen, Claude Debussy. Over time, she shifted her focus from pursuing a career as a classical pianist to composition and improvisation. This decision led her to continue her studies with the composers Sascha Dragićević and Stefan Streich. In 2019, she composed an orchestral album with voice and electronic elements, inspired by selected poems by Charles Baudelaire. During this period, she wrote works for piano and string ensembles.

Since 2022 she started to collaborate with musicians, dancers, poets and actors. Her performances have taken her to Asia and through Europe, including Austria, Greece, France, The Netherlands, Croatia, Japan, Switzerland. Isabel Anders performed with musicians and groups such as: The London Improvisers Orchestra, The Berlin Improvisers Orchestra, Ignaz Schick, Christian Lillinger, Marc Schmolling, Matthias Bauer, Biliana Voutchkova, Romain Bertheau, Tobias Delius, Toshimaru Nakamura, Edward Perraud, Taiko Saito, Eri Ito, Antonis Anissegos, Yuko Kaseki.
