Tansy Spinks
Tansy Spinks is an artist and improviser who has played at tate Britain, the ICA, V&A, Café Oto, I’Klecktik, Hundred Years Gallery and has exhibited widely.
Sound projects and performances include The Sound Bureau monthly improvised gigs series curated with Phil Durrant, the Text Scores of Place series, including Peckham’s M2 gallery and Sefrou, Morrocco, and leading sound walks from her project space in Brixton.
Live, solo, commissioned responses for film include at APT gallery for Anne Robinson’s films, The Hurrier, 2021, The Charmer’s (band and LP,) 2024/25, (duetting with Maggie Nicols), performed at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, Supernormal Festival 2025, improvising to the paintings of Monica Sjoo at Beaconsfield Gallery, 2022, commissioned for the film Viva Voce by Keith Piper currently installed at Tate Britain 2024-6 and playing at Tate Late, Tate Britain, 2024, improvising to Bacon and Moore in Room 23 with Dub Morphology.
Invited to play solo a nine hour improvised performance at the ICA for series revisiting The Thin Black Line, (1985) summer 2025, co-founder of Electrio, (inc. Kallin, Ferrar, Hallett) playing live for Resonance FM and Morley radio, member of Max Reinhardt’s Instant Scorechestra at Latitude, Cables at The Tin Tabernacle with Chris Hill, Orchestra New at Vortex with Caroline Kraabel, Mopomoso, exhibiting drawings as scores as a drawing/performance workshop at Five Years gallery as Extended Scores, 2025. She collaborates with many improvisors, attends Eddie Prevost’s London Improvisation Workshop and is a member of the London Improvisers Orchestra.
