Homecoming

Homecoming is the three-way collaborative project of visual artist Laure Van Minden, VJ Michelle Brace and trumpeter Chris Dowding. Homecoming album on Bandcamp.

The project began as an installation made by Laure and Chris for Raveningham Sculpture Trail in South Norfolk in the Summer of 2021. They extended the project for live performance to include Michelle, who has a live feed of Laure’s live drawing, immersed into her visuals, as well as a connection to Chris’ use of Ableton, meaning the sound is also affecting the visuals.

Chris is a trumpeter and workshop leader based in Norwich, who regularly works with trombonist Annie Whitehead and composes for several groups. Laure is also based in Norwich and was featured in the ‘Pas De Deux’ exhibition organised by sonic arts collective Eastern Ear, where Laure’s drawings were shown in partnership with fellow artist Paul Levy.

Michelle is a VJ, digital artist and creative based near Cambridge, who has worked extensively with a varied range of musicians and bands, as well as leading workshops with Collusion. Their ‘Homecoming’ performance at Mopomoso in September 2025 will also mark the launch of a second album of music for the project by Chris, also premiered at Raveningham Sculpture Trail (in 2023) and extending the compositional process of turning phrases collected by Laure in care home work (and especially from people live with dementia) into musical notes and manipulating them into sound, to be further layered by the trio collaboration.
